Rest Day 11/1:

Where Are You Training This Winter?

The time to start thinking about CRASH-B’s is finally here!  The CRASH-B’s are the Indoor World Rowing Championships held in Boston every February at Agganis Arena.  They’re put on by Concept2 and are an awesome goal to train for this winter.  Anyone can sign-up and compete.  The distance is 2,000m and all of the ergs are connected and displayed for the crowd up on the jumbo-tron.

So, if you’re planning to compete at CRASH-B’s or any other indoor rowing event this winter give a shout out and let us know where you’re training!  Post to Comments and Facebook!

If you’re in Boston and would like to train for CRASH-B’s come check out the Renegade Rowing Club at CrossFit Boston.  We’re holding our first class this Saturday at 8am.

Rest Day 10/18: Checkout the Head of the Charles this Weekend! How do you get motivated?

Rest Day 10/18:

The Head of the Charles is taking place this weekend in Boston.  A lot of rowers have used the Head to get motivated by setting goals to place in the top 20, top 10, or top 3.  Come check it out and witness one of the most awesome rowing events in the world.  Below is an excerpt from a great blog on motivation by Alex Black of Wicked Good Nutrition.

How do you get motivated?

The Land of Motivation

Motivation can be tough. It can be hard to find your way to Motivation-land, and once you get there, it can be even harder to stay. It takes at least a month to turn a behavior into a habit, and that month will typically be rife with challenges. Because, you know, the minute you decide to give up sugar or beer the next three social outings your friends plan are a baking pot luck and outing to your favorite craft beer bar…

On top of that, some research suggests it can take up to 3 yearsto reset your body’s homeostasis (sense of balance) at a new weight. What this means is, if you lose 20 pounds, it can take 3 years before you body recognizes this as its new and healthy weight.

But all that aside, there are a few tricks you can use to help you get motivated and stay motivated. These include:

Rest Day 9/27: Clean your Erg!

Rest Day 9/27:

Clean your Erg!

Every month or so, depending on how much your erg is used the chain should be oiled.  You should also be wiping down the monorail, seat, and handle every time you use it.  No need to spread sickness or bump and chatter up the recovery.  Here’s an example of cleaning and updating the erg.

The Renegade Rowing Team in their lineup!

Rest Day 9/20:

Who Motivates You and Why?

When training or pushing to reach a goal it helps to surround yourself with people who will push you, hold you accountable, pick you up when you fall, and make you your best self.  Last weekend I had the privilege of shoving the Renegade Rowing Team off the dock for their first race on the water.  They are a group of Athletes that came together to challenge the norm and hold themselves to a higher standard.  They came from CrossFit Boston, CrossFit New England, and Community Rowing Inc.   They competed for a spot in the boat, did Rowing WODs on their own, worked toward personal goals in the gym, and put forth a focused effort at every practice.

Bringing it home in the sprint!

In a matter of 11 practices on the water over two months they learned to row an eight man shell, come together as a team, and race other experienced crews from the Charles River.  They had the second fastest raw time in the Mixed Masters 8+ Event at the Rumble on the River and passed a boat during the head race portion.

Everyone on the Renegade Rowing Team motivates me for their dedication and passion to learn and continually challenge themselves.
