Rest Day 6/5/14: What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Rest Day:

Coach Pat's first row of the season!

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Now that it’s Summer and the weather is finally getting warm, what are you going to learn on your weekends?  Summer weekends are made for getting outside, trying new things, and having fun with old friends.  If you’d like to get out on the water with a group of friends let me know and we’ll make it happen.

Who’s looking forward to rowing on the water?  Who’s looking forward to crushing some Rowing WODs? Whatever you do this weekend or next, get outside, get passionate about something, and have some fun!

If you’d like to try Renegade Rowing on the water let me know!

Execute Ideal 1k Race Pace

  • Be consistent but bring the intensity

We performed a similar Rowing WOD back in March and April as a way of building consistency at hitting our goal 2k pace.  This time we’re using it to build our consistency at our goal 1k pace.   Look back to see how you did and bring your best for today’s Rowing WOD.  This will get tough with a faster pace, but if you can bring the intensity, stay consistent, and hit your numbers you will be ready to crush our next 1k or perhaps your next “Jackie”.

When competing we need to be able to follow a game plan and execute with control at full intensity, whether it’s a 5k row or a snatch ladder.  Many of you are looking to break a 3min or 4min 1k.  Those that can develop a race plan, hit their splits, and stick to their stroke ratings will come out on top and crush that goal.

Today’s Rowing WOD is all about focusing on that control and execution at full intensity.  Each piece should be full pressure trying to hold your ideal race pace.  You should visualize what it will be like in the middle of your 1k and what you will do to maintain mental toughness.  Be smooth, be consistent, breathe, and execute!

Post your average 500m splits for each piece to comments!

Athletes around the globe have been training all year for a shot at Regionals and a chance to make it to the Games.  Now is the time to see all of that hard work pay off.  Good luck to all competitors and I hope everyone has a great weekend!

On the water, rowers have been working hard all spring for the US Rowing Regional Championships.  This weekend junior teams from the Northeast will be competing in Lowell, MA on the Merrimack River for a chance to compete at Nationals in June.  Good luck to all crews!

Go See a Regatta!

This weekend marks the beginning of the championship regatta season with many big regattas taking place around the country.  Find your nearest rowing center and see if there’s a race happening.  Set yourself up by the finish or start to see the best action.  Also check out the launching and landing areas to see the controlled chaos it takes to make a regatta happen.
