Renegades Racing on the water!

Can you imagine a Games Event on the Water?

Wouldn’t it be epic to watch the “2007” Games WOD from last night with a 1,000m row on the water instead of the erg?  I don’t know if it’ll ever happen, but I hope I’m there if it does.   Let us know how you think they should incorporate rowing on the water into the Games!

The Renegade Rowing Team kicking off a great first week on the water!

The Renegade Rowing Team kicked off their first week of practice last week and had a blast on the Charles River.  We learned how to carry boats, set boats, and row barges.  This week we’ll be in the 8+ learning our race warmup drills and rowing by 6’s.

Keep an eye on the website and blog for video blog updates as we go through the season.  I hope to start holding Renegade Rowing Classes at Community Rowing in September where we do workouts like “2007” on the water.  Can’t wait to share the fun with you all!

Blade Work

When is the blade Feathered/Squared?

At the CrossFit Rowing Course June 8-9 we will be learning how the blade and the oar move with the body during the stroke.  If you’re interested in dialing in your technique and pushing your rowing to the next level come to CrossFit Boston and Community Rowing.

On Saturday we will be crushing it with CrossFit Rowing Coach Shane Farmer on the Concept2 Ergometer.  On Sunday we will be putting our new and improved skills to work rowing in shells on the Charles River.  Sign up here and come enjoy the summer in Boston!

Share your thoughts on when the blade should be feathered and squared to comments!

Rowing WOD 4/9/13: 15 x :20 On :40 off – Post Fastest and Slowest Splits

Rowing WOD 4/9/13:

15 x :20 On :40 Off

Max Pressure

Elite fitness is all about developing power through high intensity.  Today’s Rowing WOD is an opportunity to push your boundaries and test the limits of your speed.  Catch your breath and focus on the 40 seconds off so that you can put every ounce of energy into suspending from the oar and going low on the split.  Compare your results to your 2k race plan.  Do you last through the first 7, but die soon after?  Could you go faster at the start of your 2k?  What happens to your focus in the last couple?  Use your results to adjust your race plan and goal for your next 2k which will be about a week before Regionals.

Post your fastest and slowest splits to comments.

Try warming up with a couple of strap drills to feel and practice suspending from the oar.    Have Fun!

“Hope”

Three rounds of:
Burpees
75 pound Power snatch
Box jump, 24″ box
75 pound Thruster
Chest to bar Pull-ups

“Hope” has the same format as Fight Gone Bad. In this workout you move from each of five stations after a minute. This is a five-minute round from which a one-minute break is allowed before repeating. The clock does not reset or stop between exercises. On call of “rotate,” the athlete/s must move to next station immediately for good score. One point is given for each rep.

CrossFit Boxes around the world will be performing the “Hope” WOD on June 9th to raise money for St. Jude’s.

CrossFit for Hope will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The goal is to raise 1.7MM – one day’s operating cost for St. Jude – to combat childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. Register to participate or find an athlete or affiliate to sponsor and join the fight.
