Can you imagine a Games Event on the Water?

Wouldn’t it be epic to watch the “2007” Games WOD from last night with a 1,000m row on the water instead of the erg?  I don’t know if it’ll ever happen, but I hope I’m there if it does.   Let us know how you think they should incorporate rowing on the water into the Games!

The Renegade Rowing Team kicking off a great first week on the water!

The Renegade Rowing Team kicked off their first week of practice last week and had a blast on the Charles River.  We learned how to carry boats, set boats, and row barges.  This week we’ll be in the 8+ learning our race warmup drills and rowing by 6’s.

Keep an eye on the website and blog for video blog updates as we go through the season.  I hope to start holding Renegade Rowing Classes at Community Rowing in September where we do workouts like “2007” on the water.  Can’t wait to share the fun with you all!

What are you doing in this heat?

Are you Hydrated?

It’s been ridiculously hot out and if you’re in New England the humidity has been even worse.  What are you doing to stay cool and enjoy the weekend?  I’m going to hit the beach down in RI.  I hope you can get to the beach or pool and have fun in this heat.  If you haven’t calculated how much you should be drinking on a daily basis to stay hydrated, today is a good day to figure it out.  Click on the Hydration link above to read one of Alex Black’s first Nutrition articles for Renegade Rowing.

Have an awesome Sunday and stay cool!

Rest Day 6/13/13:

Do you have what it takes to Race?

Have you ever seen an eight racing at top speed?  Are you interested in experiencing that for yourself?  Can you follow?  Can you push yourself?  Can you push others?  Do you have discipline? Will you work hard and find a way to push on even when pain and that little voice inside your head tells you to stop?

Then you should tryout for the Renegade Rowing Team.

We’ll be training twice a week starting mid July and racing in September.  More details are on their way.  Checkout the video below to see what you could be doing with your summer…

Comment if you’re ready!  Tryouts in July!

Whatever you do this weekend or next, get outside, get passionate about something, and have some fun!

If you’re coming to the CrossFit Rowing Course this weekend we’d love to hear from you!  Comment or email us with any questions and what you’re looking forward to learning this weekend.

Spend two days with Coach Shane Farmer. The first day will be spent learning rowing technique, technical error analysis and correction, verbal cues, rowing physiology and kinesiology, how to structure a CrossFit rowing workout, maximizing rowing power and efficiency, increasing rowing power output for better WOD times/scores and more at this comprehensive workshop. The day will include lecture, rowing on the Concept2 indoor rowing machine, team teaching, and two CrossFit workouts. Knowing how to row correctly and teach rowing to your clients are invaluable skills within the CrossFIt community.

The second day will enable participants to take their rowing skills outdoors and into actual on the water racing boats. Transferring the skills learned on the indoor rowing machine to an on-water rowing experience will enable participants to further refine their technique and power output capabilities.

Day 2 – This day is set aside for those wishing to learn the basics of using a single person boat.  There is a lot to learn and everyone will face different challenges, but the focus is on having fun and learning the basics. No rowing experience is needed, however swimming skills are required. You should be able to swim a distance of 75 feet, tread water for 5 minutes and swim a distance of 20 feet under water. Everyone participating in the On Water Rowing will be required to sign a standard Athlete Release Form.

Here’s a peek at where we’ll be rowing on the water….
